Burnaby Hospital Foundation Donor Story

A donor’s perspective on giving back to what matters

Planned Giving is a popular way to leave a legacy while giving back to your community through your charity of choice. For prolific Burnaby resident Pat Delesalle it’s another way to give back to the community hospital he has been supporting one way or another throughout his entire life.

“Everyone in the community should do something in, or after, their lifetime to give back to whatever is meaningful to them or their families,” says Delesalle.

From an early age, Delesalle was taught the importance of giving back through the philanthropic efforts of his parents. Since then, the president of Delesalle Holdings Inc. has gone on to serve as a Burnaby Hospital Foundation Trustee and now sits as Vice- Chair of the organization’s Fundraising Cabinet. In 2016, he won the foundation’s Keith and Betty Beedie Leadership in Philanthropy Award.

“Everyone in the community should do something in, or after, their lifetime to give back to whatever is meaningful to them or their families,”

Delesalle’s volunteer roles within Burnaby Hospital Foundation have provided him with an inside look at all of the work that is done behind the scenes to keep Burnaby Hospital equipped in every way to advance the health of all generations. The opportunity has inspired him to make many gifts over the years on behalf of himself, his family and his business. In that time, he has seen many changes at Burnaby Hospital but one thing remains the same—the level of high- quality care, close to home.

“Each of my five children were born at Burnaby Hospital, and I myself have been a patient there on more than one occasion. I have always felt that I have received top notch care from the great doctors and nurses at Burnaby Hospital,” he notes.

“From the patients who take their first breath in the hospital to those who take their last, a legacy gift will impact countless families who receive care at Burnaby Hospital now and throughout the future.”

Delesalle encourages the community to learn more about Planned Giving and the impact it has on countless people’s lives. Legacy gifts, such as bequests (a gift in a Will), gifts of life insurance or gifts of retirement funds, are all wonderful options for giving back in an even more impactful way than many are able to consider during their lifetime.

“From the patients who take their first breath in the hospital to those who take their last, a legacy gift will impact countless families who receive care at Burnaby Hospital now and throughout the future,” says Delesalle.
